M1 Carbine Scabbard

My GPW came with an M1 carbine scabbard thrown in the back. That was a nice bonus. The scabbard likely had sat there for a long time, and I don’t think it was ever treated properly The leather is dry and stiff, but, thankfully, has no cracking. Here it is as it came to me, US proofed, 1944 dated, and JQMD / EMC marked. All straps and hardware are present. though quite brittle.

I’d like to display this scabbard on the GPW, so it’s going to need some work. I started off the rejuvenation with Fiebings saddle soap, then used Pecard’s and Cadillac leather conditioners.

The Pecards is a bit glossy, so after a few days I used Cadillac conditioner which leaves a more satin finish. Here she is with the straps reinstalled.  sabbard-complete.jpg
